Hey Reader,

Full transparency, when I take my res{e}t day each week, or even the week I take each month, it often gets filled up with other tasks that don’t quite offer up the deeper res{e}t I’m really hoping for. I mean, yes, while paying attention to finances, doing laundry, and packing away winter gear certainly offer up a fresh perspective and feel like a reset, they’re not exactly the deep soul reset that my spirit really longs for.

So why then, if I know those deeper resets are what I need and block the time out to invite them in, do I get caught answering emails or posting on social media “quick” before my weekly walk at the state park on my reset day?

Why sometimes, when I sit down at home to rest, journal, or just pay attention on purpose to the outdoors or my present state, do I get up 3 minutes later (yes, sometimes it’s kid-related, but not always)?

Why, even when I carve out the free space in my calendar, is it hard to explore the quietness of being in stillness (or at best slowness) with myself?

I’m wondering if you ever feel the same way?

.

.

.

.

Oh, you do?

(If you don’t, then it’s OK to stop reading this part of the newsletter. Feel free to skip on down to the next sections or simply stop reading, it won’t hurt my feelings. I want people here who my work resonates with, and if that’s not you, that’s absolutely OK with me. Go find what does speak to your❤️ and I promise, we can still be friends outside of email.)

Great.

So we’re in this together.

Let me let you in on another little secret…

🤫

That restless feeling we sometimes get when we’re faced with slowing down, stillness or emptiness in our schedules? It’s because stillness does feel strange.

And for so many naturally caffeinated souls out there, so does receiving.

You’re not alone, my friend.💚

Somewhere along the line we learned that slowing down, stillness, and rest were something that had to be earned. That if we were to slow down, we might fall behind… miss out… not be where we’re “supposed” to be in life.

But the truth is, you’re exactly where you need to be right now, in this moment, and taking time to slow down and even rest isn’t about not being productive. Quite the contrary, rest and inward reflection IS a phase of productivity as nature shows us.

Plus, your nervous system doesn’t care about how much you get done, instead it craves a steady rhythm instead of rushing.

It wants a pause to exhale and just be, even if it tries to convince you otherwise with busyness.

And when you find this rhythm, both your spirit and nervous system will say “Thank you for remembering us.”

So if the stillness feels strange… you’re not doing it wrong. You’re just remembering how to be with yourself again. And that can take time.

Holding Space For You,

☀️May God’s goodness and light be with me today and always; and may others experience this goodness and light through me.

What’s Cultivating Health Harmony Happiness in My Life…

Pausing to take 10 full, deep breaths (exhale longer than inhale) first thing in the morning, before going to bed, and before each meal. This actually helps activate digestion and get something inside you called the “Migrating Motor Complex” going in your stomach and small intestine. Give it a try and see if you notice anything different!
