Hi Reader!
What’s a habit you’ve struggled with over the years? Perhaps it’s working out, or practicing yoga or meditation, or even something as simple as flossing your teeth.
Starting a new habit can be challenging, and there are boatloads of ways to make a new habit stick. If this is something you struggle with, two of my favorite books on habits are:
If you’re not up for reading these right now, one of the tricks I’ve used to help make habits stick over the years is to set them up as a ritual.
No, not in a way that of worshiping them, but in a way that puts intention into them in order to deepen my connection with them. As a way for my spirit and authenticity to bring meaning in my life to that habit.
For instance, my yoga practice isn’t just about stepping on the mat and going through the motions, but instead, a ritualistic practice that brings about an intended outcome. It’s a way of involving more than just my physical body in the practice of yoga, of also involving my energetic presence.
But a ritual doesn’t have to just be tied to a spiritual practice; anything can become ritualistic. And in some cases, by doing so, it gives you the encouragement to keep doing it. It could be that it gives you something to look forward to with doing that habit.
Rituals aren’t just for religious practices or woo-woo moon-worshiping practices. In fact, they’re so much more.
And that’s exactly what I’m talking about this week on the podcast.
I also give you some tips on how to make everyday habits more ritualistic so that you can begin to enhance the outcome of the habit so that it more positively impacts your life (even if it already positively impacts your life😉).
Until next week…
Cheers,
Cathy
