Reader,

Last week, while solo parenting, I made it the entire week without losing my ish all over my kids. 🎉

Yep, that’s a celebration for me if I’m being honest.

🙋‍♀️ Remember me… that fiery, naturally-caffeinated person over here who teaches you about deep inner peace?

For whatever reason, parenting last week felt lighter than my business (not always the case when solo parenting). Our schedule was hectic, and I had to enlist the help of others because I physically couldn’t be everywhere we needed to be by myself while still ensuring everyone was fed and ready for the task ahead—but in the end, we made it.

There was really only one instance when my strong-willed 5-year-old pushed me out the door.

And by that, I mean she was pushing my buttons so much that, in order to keep my cool, I had to go outside to reset. My husband was on a video call with the big kids, and she had already been tucked in more than once by me and virtually by my husband—yet she was still protesting bedtime.

I excused myself outside to put the chickens in for the night and, after doing so, stood barefoot in the grass, resetting with breath work, tears, and prayer until my system was ready to go back inside.

It’s such a small thing, but sometimes that conscious choice to just step away can be the hardest. Within minutes, I could feel my whole system calming.

My racing emotionally charged energy slowed. My muscles relaxed. My thoughts settled.

And as they did, the sounds of her protests faded, and I could go back inside feeling grounded, ready to check in with my husband and big kids before bedtime.

This is one of the simplest (and most effective) ways I reset when life feels overwhelming. Just being in nature—feet in the grass, hands on or in the earth, syncing with nature’s pace.

And the science backs this up—when we spend time connected to the earth, our nervous system calms, which allows every other function in our body to work better.

It’s simple, but easy to forget when you’re in the thick of life.

So here’s your gentle nudge today: Step outside. Touch the earth. Let nature work its magic. 🌿

When was the last time you gave yourself that gift?

Hit reply and let me know—I’d love to hear.

Cheers,
Cathy
