Hey Reader,

One of my students recently told me that she is now taking a 1½ hour lunch break and is able to come in early to make up the time.

First, what an amazing, forward-thinking workplace she has👏.

Second, this isn’t just something she’s able to do because it’s “nice” and her workplace lacks boundaries.

That’s hardly the case. My friend and student, Katie (who gave me permission to use her name), works for a place that has publicly had their boundaries challenged a number of times and time and again, they stand firm with doing what’s best for the public.

It also means that she’s no different than every one of you reading this email – work and life bring stress.

Stress impacts our mental health and our performance on the job.
So kudos to her workplace, and the fact that she has the flexibility in her life to be able to do something like this.

But the point I want to make is that Katie has learned the power of listening to her rhythms and knows that when her introverted self has to be extroverted and put a lot of energy out in order to do her job effectively, she needs time to replenish.

Because she has been doing this work on herself with me and other guides over the years, a couple things have allowed her to make this shift in the way she lives her life:

1️⃣ She now knows herself so well and is able to tune into her own rhythms that she knows what she needs for health, harmony and happiness and can set boundaries to move towards that.

2️⃣ She had the courage to use her voice to ask the people in her life who could support her in her desires(read: goals) if they would be willing to accommodate this understanding of her own rhythms and how it impacts her job.

The result?

💥Boom 1½ hour lunch breaks (2-hour in the summer BECAUSE it’s a busier time of year for her) 🤯

(A busier season is exactly the reason and time to plan to jump into the practices that help you take care of your mental health, so you can show up more whole and complete for the people who mean the most to you, instead of letting your emotions come out all sideways on everyone in your household.)

What a forward thinking supervisor, for one, and two, YASSSSSSSSSS!!!! This is the type of success I love to hear from people.

Not only is Katie Finding Her Rhythms continuously over and over with the changing of the seasons, but she’s Listening to that Inner Wisdom and what’s best for her mental health, then stepping into her power to Own Her Thoughts and Actions to do something about it, and Witnessing the Outcome by noticing changes happening in how she performs at work and interacts with her people.

This is a prime example of the F.L.O.W. method I teach in studio classes, workplace wellness workshops and with private clients and teams. But this didn’t happen overnight, it has taken Katie doing small things often to see and experience these results.

I get that taking a 1½ – 2-hour lunch break and coming in early or staying late doesn’t work for every workplace (teachers… I’m especially talking to you here😉, ‘cause God love ya, I know you don’t get much for breaks in your day), but what are the other places in your life where you can communicate with the people who love you that you need time to res{e}t and replenish your soul?

That one small thing could be as simple as choosing even just ONE yoga or breath work class to commit to during the week, or perhaps signing up for a retreat, or pitching your workplace to host a wellness workshop that benefits all employees.

These intentional actions tell your nervous system that it matters, that you hear it, and that you are willing to reconnect with what it needs to feel safe in this world.

There’s two more classes this week at the studio (one virtual and one in-person), then I take a full week to res{e}t because my nervous system needs that regular break in its own rhythm to feel its best.

Join me at one of these classes here or reply back to book your workplace wellness workshop today to empower your team to take small steps often towards greater well-being.

Cheers,
Cathy
