Hey there Reader!
You know when you’re in bed and the alarm goes off and you’re faced with the first transition of the day?
You have the choice to either hit the snooze and stay in bed or get up.
When you think of getting up, you know what lies ahead of you for the day…”adulting”🙃. Being a responsible human, caring for yourself and others and kicking butt in the world.
Yet your bed is so comfy, your eyes are tired, you might have someone or something snuggling next to you and keeping you warm, and the call to stay in bed is so strong…
You know what makes this choice so difficult? It’s not the fact that you have to face all the things on your list for the day, it’s actually the fact that the comfort of your bed will be gone😭.
Grief.
That’s right, transitions are more about the loss we feel than they are about the transition to something new or different. It’s not about the challenge (after all, you know you can do hard things), it’s about the grief we experience in having to do something different than what we are already doing.
Even if it’s a transition that you think is no big deal, on some level, your unconscious brain mourns the loss of the familiar and wants to keep you with what’s familiar. That’s what makes transitions challenging sometimes.
It’s also what keeps you exhausted and on the verge or burnout feeling unfocused, drained, and like you have no time for anything.
I’m sharing more about this in part one of a mini-series on How to Make Transitions Effortless this week in the podcast. I also guide you through a visualization to help you identify the loose process your mind goes through when you go through a transition.
In the meantime, you opt to transition into the day and head toward the bathroom, grieving the fact that you are now out of that big, plush bed, resting on your nice soft pillow.
Your day is just beginning and there actually are so many things to look forward to and be grateful for.
You pause, take a deep breath, hand to heart and ask yourself “What is it I need most today?”. Your mind responds without thinking and you’re set with the intention you need to honor for the rest of the day.
See? That transition wasn’t so bad! 🤗
Until next week…
Helping you find the rhythms in all you do!
Cheers,
Cathy
P.S. If you haven’t set intentions for the new lunar cycle that started on Monday, it’s never too late to do so. And you can grab your handy Intention-setting Worksheet to help you do so, right here.
