Hi Reader,
Overfunctioning is something quite common to do-it-all women. And that’s because overfunctioning is doing more than what’s essential in an effort to take care of others or in anticipation of someone else not doing what you think should be done.
It’s basically being overly responsible for the people in your life.
And the result of it leads do-it-all women, kinda like you, to burnout.
It begins with doing too much for your kids, your partner, or at work in an effort to just try to be “helpful.” But really it’s being over-helpful.
And while it may be helping them in the immediate, it doesn’t actually help them grow into people who can state their needs and tune into what their Inner Guidance is really feeling and needing or into what a long-term solution might be.
But I’m not here to harp on you about being an overfunctioner…I’ve played that role for a lot of my life. Going above and beyond just because I wanted to be helpful or because “that’s what you do…work hard and make sure things are done ‘just right.'”
I want you to know, you can indeed become a recovering overfunctioner. It just takes gaining the awareness of where you’re overfunctioning, then adding just a drop of underfunctioning.
So go ahead, leave those socks on the floor…let someone else in your house pick them up.
.
.
.
Let your toddler pick out her clothes, even if they’re stripes and polka dots and every single clashing color you could ever imagine.
.
.
.
Let your 6 year old do her hair and leave the house how she did it even if that means it looks like a unicorn horn on the top of her forehead. She’s got her own style, and that’s great!
.
.
.
Let your kids wash the dishes even if they take 30 minutes to wash just 4 things because they’re playing in the water.
.
.
.
Practice saying “no” or keeping your hand down at work when they ask for someone to help with social media just because you are good with it.
.
.
.
Let your husband make breakfast or dinner one or more times in the week, even if his idea of making a meal is takeout.
So you’re an overfunctioning do-it-all woman. That doesn’t mean you have to stay that way. That means you get a choice to add just a drop of undefunctioning and listening to your Inner Guidance into your day.
Resist the urge…
I have faith in you😉.
Cheers,
Cathy
