Reader, I spent the morning fighting my brain and trying to make content when it’s just not flowing as I’d hoped.

I’m in the phase of my cycle when scattered thinking is more prone to happen and focus is a challenge (if you want to know more about that, check out this podcast episode).

And actually, I was in a great flow teaching class this morning, and had hoped it would translate into content creation, but instead, I just got brain fog.

In the midst of this, I did record this little video.

Too long for a reel that would stop someone to listen, so I deleted it and did a quick 15 minute workout to get back into my body.

Thanks to technology, it wasn’t permanently deleted yet.

When sitting down to write with my 25 minute timer going, I was going to write about what was in the video, but instead decided to just let you have a listen.

Not being flexible is the exact reason you need yoga.

Noticing your body through movement and breath is actually the foundation of reconnecting with your body.

Believe it or not, your tendency to go 100 mph 100% of the time is a strategy your nervous system has developed for survival.

A way of moving towards feeling a sense of positivity, accomplishment and belonging that, as a species, is essential.

The busyness, intensity, over-indulging, overthinking, people pleasing, and whatever else you employ to keep you going are all just ways of avoiding truly noticing what’s happening under the surface of your body.

That’s where the key to connection lies – with yourself AND with others.

The simple act of moving your body mindfully and noticing “what’s here now” when faced with challenge, is what translates to life feeling lighter.

Not because the hard things disappear, but because you’ve built a relationship with yourself that can hold them.

That’s what the 84-year-old in the video understands.

Not flexible, not “a yoga person” by anyone’s definition, and yet, decades of a simple daily practice have made his life richer, more connected, more meaningful.

That’s the whole point.

You don’t come to yoga because you’re already at ease in your body.
You come because you’re not.
And that’s what makes the difference.

Cheers,
