Happy Thanksgiving!
Right now I know your inbox is (and has been for quite some time) being inundated with all the “Black Friday” (which actually maybe should just be called Black November) emails asking you to grab onto a super sweet deal.
But here’s an email I hope you’ll pause to actually consume today – it’s a reminder to remember how to harvest – not only food but also life – honorably.
Last year I read the book Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, and hands down it is my all time favorite book. If you appreciate nature and the interconnectedness of all things, then you, too, should check out this book. I recommend it to many and have purchased numerous copies as gifts. If listening is your thing, then grab it on Audible and listen over and over… at REGULAR pace. Robin’s voice is so delicious, you just can’t speed it up.
When I was reading this book, I would immerse myself in it by walking at a local state park and listening, often in tears because of the way the author connects our current reality with the Indigenous traditions that are considerably a more honorable way to connect with nature.
One of my favorite things that came from this book is the Guidelines for Honorable Harvest. I’ve adapted the version below from a couple of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s books and created a print to display wherever you feel called to display it. Nonetheless, I want this gift to bless you and remind you of your connection with the earth that supports and sustains us every day.
I’ve had prints made of these guidelines and am happy to share. If you would like a beautifully printed 5×7 copy to frame as a regular reminder for you, just reply back with your address and I’ll gladly drop one in the mail for you💚
With Gratitude,
