#38: Welcome Back to the Show
I’m back to podcasting and excited to share with you what I’ve been up to over the past 2 years!
Hey Friends!
Welcome to Episode 38! Phew, I’m back! If you listened to the last episode I produced of this podcast back in 2020…yep, 2020! I told you I was going to take a “short” break from the podcast. Well, short, in the whole scheme of life, honestly, but it seems like eons since I’ve been behind this microphone. I took a break because we were shifting and adjusting to life as the pandemic was in full swing and as our family’s demands changed as well as so I could do some much needed self-work and healing, which continues to this day, but I feel as though I’m finally in a place to create in this space once again.
Life has certainly changed over the past 2 years. I now have a 2 year old, 6 year old and 8 year old who are still lively and continue to find their own interests in this world. And I can say, I’m loving being able to help coach their various sports when it works out and watch them cultivate their own way of being in this world.
But it is definitely a practice to balance all their energy with my own and my husbands. And I would say that is probably the thing that is the most challenging for me in life right now. But one of the things that helps me do this is to have my own creative outlet, and that’s what my business is for me. And one of the components that has been missing to this creative outlet is this podcast. So I’m back and excited to bring your episodes once again. They may look a bit different that before, but I’m hoping you’ll find that they are every bit as entertaining to listen to and that you end up learning something that can help you cultivate greater health, harmony and happiness in life.
So here’s where we’ll start:
Seven years. It’s quite a Biblical number, and I want to share it’s most recent meaning to me.
But my eyes were really opened over the past 2 years, and my beliefs shifted in the way that I view what women vs. men need in a yoga practice…and in life, quite honestly. As a woman your body functions differently than a man’s; therefore, to honor that means moving in ways that align with your own unique cyclical nature.
We’ll talk more about cyclical living in the next episode.
I no longer believe 1 single yoga sequence is the solution for feeling your best each and every day.
And because of this, I have been quietly creating and practicing 4 yoga sequences that align with the 4 phases of your menstrual cycle or the lunar cycle. Has this been done before?
Yes. Absolutely it has. Has it been done with the physiological balance of the human body drawn from Adamantine(R) Yoga before?
Nope.
For those of you who may not be familiar with what I’m talking about, this particular style of yoga considers all the joint actions of the major joints in the body and moves them to their fullest range of motion in an effort to balance the body thereby balancing the mind. I’m a firm believer that whatever dis-eases manifest in the body are, to an extent, a result of the thoughts we create. I also believe that the tissues of our bodies hold past traumas, emotions and beliefs. It makes sense, then, that the system of Adamantine works to an extent.
If you’re already an action-taking woman who has more masculine tendencies than feminine, it definitely encourages the continuation of that, which is where I realized it was having a negative effect on me.
It was breeding within me an unhealthy drive to perform and produce all. the. time. And if you’ve paid attention to anything I’ve said or done over the past 2 years, you may have noticed that that’s not exactly how we were created to do things. Living the “hustle” life appears to be the fastest way to get things done, but it’s actually the fastest way to burnout. Been there, done that, as I’m sure you have too.
You just may not have wanted to admit it. Or perhaps, you did, but you were too afraid of what would happen or who you would let down if you did shift your priorities and begin to slow down.
At the root of this desire to always be “doing” is the fear that if you let go of control, your world might fall apart. Kids will fall behind in their development because they’re not in ALL the activities, you’ll get left out of invites to events that you’ll grumble about going to when the time comes to actually go, or heaven forbid, you’ll have to be bored and experience what it is like to be alone with only your thoughts. Yikes, it does sound kind of scary!
But let me tell you, friends, trust is the opposite of control.
This is the true work I have begun helping women with, and I felt it time to bring that forward and bring closure to a phase of my life that was my identity for quite some time. I no longer teach or am affiliated with Adamantine(R) Yoga, a decision I battled with for the past 2 years, but which was made abundantly clear to me at the end of 2021 that it was time to cut ties.
Moving forward, I’m combining what I know as a yoga teacher and as a coach to help action-taking women, like you, use your body’s rhythms and the moon’s cycle to optimize productivity and avoid burnout, without letting your desire to remain in control alter your focus.
It’s about more than just moving your body on a yoga mat (although that’s certainly part of it); it’s about healing from past hurts and choosing to move with the right mindset and intention that aligns with what you value most in life. And the cool thing is, your body-mind already knows how to do all this, we just have to remind it that it does.
So why does this matter to you? Well, because I have been re-crafting what I do an how I serve people. I now primarily coach overachieving women who have overcommitting tendencies use their body’s rhythms and/or the moon’s cycle to shift out of distraction, chaos, and burnout and into optimal productivity, balance, and focus, without giving up their action-oriented nature. I do this by using my unique F.L.O.W. process combined with Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to help them align with and take back the power they may have given away to un-resourceful thoughts, projects or people over the years as they invite a more mindful way of living into their lives.
I primarily do this through 1:1 virtual or in-person sessions, in the Energetic Rhythms for Intentional Living Facebook Community, and through online courses that have a coaching component. And I’d love to work with you! I have a couple openings on my calendar right now for clarity calls to see if any of these would be a good fit for you. So if it’s something you’d like to learn more about, email me at cathy@cairnyogawellness.com to schedule a quick clarity call.
In the next episode I’m talking all about what Cyclical Living is and why it might matter to you.
