Last week I was writing a reel for an idea and video that had literally been sitting in my phone for months about nervous systems being in freeze mode.
In the midst of writing, I realized I was in freeze mode myself.
I kept getting distracted, letting my attention wander.
🤳Pick up my phone.
✍️Set it down.
💻Jump to another tab.
⌚Check the time.
You know the drill, Reader.
But maybe you didn’t realize that those were signs your nervous system was trying to communicate with you.
Maybe you just chalked it up to undiagnosed (or even diagnosed) ADHD.
Guess, what, my friend, that’s not necessarily the case.
When under stress, even if it’s not physical stress due to a specific event, but rather the simplicity of not knowing how something is going to turn out, your nervous system responds internally.
It seeks something that will make it feel safe.
This might show up as avoiding the things you know you need to do… “but just can’t.”
I know the feeling, and it still happens even when you’ve been doing nervous system healing work for years.
The difference is, I can catch it and respond to it rather than suppress it and let it take me too far into anxiety or shutdown.
What your body needs in these instances is a state change.
Your brain needs to be settled AND you need to wake your body back up.
So that you come back to a more centered and focused way of being.
What this meant for me last week?
Well, I had to stand up and literally do what I was writing for all of you to do.
And guess what happened when I did?
I was able to sit down, focused, and with purpose, knock out that reel content + caption in less time than I had been sitting there working on it with only two or three points written.
It works.
This isn’t the only technique you can use to free yourself from freeze mode, but it’s one to get you started.
If you want to see the whole reel, check it out here.
Stay grounded✌️
Cheers,
