Hey Reader,
Did you ever have one of those days when everyone else looks or seems like they’re wildly succeeding at everything in life and you’re not? 😩
You know how social media likes to do that to you.
But even when it’s not social media, like when it’s the real world and you see your neighbors down the street getting that new car, or boat, or home remodel or dream vacation…whatever it may be that makes you feel like you’re not enough.
Like you’re not working hard enough or making the right connections to just get to that place you had in your mind you wanted to be by this point in your life. You know that feeling?
Yeah, me too.
And I’m here to say that comparison = inadequacy + burnout…no matter what.
Trying to keep up with the neighbors down the street can make you feel better in the moment, but ultimately leaves you feeling depleted and inadequate. As though you’re still not doing enough because they keep moving forward and you still feel like you’re floundering in some area(s) of your life.
And when you make the conscious choice to begin to live more intentionally in the present moment, you actually start to shed some of those beliefs that you have to “have it all” or be at a certain place in life by a certain age.
But I want you to know, from experience, you will naturally go through some periods of doubt. Times when those feelings of inadequacy creep back in, as recently happened to me.
After all, you’re unlearning a way of living that has been ingrained in you from a very young age, so of course it will happen.
And when those feelings of inadequacy begin to creep in, as you know they will, bring your awareness back to your “why.” Why are you choosing to live differently than your neighbors down the street? Why did you choose the path you chose to get you to where you are right now?
Your “why” can bring you back to your truth. It can remind you that burnout doesn’t have to be the way of living.
That you get to choose something different.
You get to choose to live with your natural energetic rhythms to make life easier, not harder.
And that, my friend, is a beautiful thing.
So, where are you feeling inadequate in your life right now?
I’ve got more to share on this concept in this week’s episode of the Health Harmony and Happiness with Cathy podcast.
