Hey there Reader,

Summer is flying by, would you agree?

And routines are definitely NOT the same as they are September through May, especially if you have kids at home. So it probably either feels like you’re surrounded by chaos yet still pushing through to try to get things done or like you’re in perpetual free time and not getting much done because of all the freedom.

The thing that the school year months often provide is something in between that. Routine and structure is good as long as there can also be flow within that structure.

But the big expansive energy of summer sometimes allows for too much flow and not enough structure, especially when it comes to connecting with yourself.

The outward energy surrounding you might mean that you forget about putting energy inward to cultivate calm and flow through self-connection and mindfulness. It might mean that you “feel stuck with the busy-ness or craziness of summer.”

In a sense, you might be abandoning yourself. And that’s totally OK to do at times (I even have a podcast episode about it), but it’s also what keeps you feeling stuck.

And one of the best ways I know of to get unstuck is to journal. 📔✍️

Hear me out (I know there’s those of you out there who loathe journaling or just don’t know what to write if you were to want to journal).

When you put pen to paper, you give your conscious mind the chance to have a conversation with your unconscious mind. To listen to the thoughts that you might not otherwise let come out for fear of judgement by others or yourself.

You might be so focused on the doing aspect of life that you forget to check in with the playful, creative side of you. The side that likes to hide unless invited out.

When you open a journal and grab a pen, you invite that inner self out.

If you’re a bit intimidated by journaling or even a little out of practice, I’ve put together a podcast episode to walk you through the seven types of journal entries I have found that work best to help me get back in touch with myself and flowing with my time, energy and focus.

Check it out here.

And my nudge this week is to invite you to grab a journal and pen and simply start. It doesn’t have to be daily, whatever feels right to you is exactly right. And once you do, you’ll gain clarity, perspective, freedom, and likely satisfaction with yourself leading to a feeling of flowing with life once again. ❤️

Cheers,

Cathy

P.S. I created a thought joggers sheet to go along with this episode to recap the seven types of journaling I talk about in the show–Getting Unstuck Through Journaling Thought Joggers. Check it out here.
