Hey Reader!

It’s Spring Break at our house, and I’m fully writing this in the midst of being home with 3 kids all week instead of having written it in advance. Normally anticipating having to do this kind of work with 3 kids at home and the intention of no real schedule would stress me out, making me even a bit irritable because I knew it had to be done (according to my own expectations..which, let’s be honest, that’s usually the culprit in most areas of stress, am I right??).

But instead, I have chosen to adopt an attitude (or mindset, as you might call it) of trust. Trusting the rhythms of life to open the space in my day to write to you and give me the inspiration to inspire you. Because downtime is necessary no matter who you are.

And downtime without guilt is essential to flowing with your life instead of against it. Like these guys…

The rhythm of downtime and rest is an ideal time for you to generate creative thoughts and ideas. If you don’t have that “unstructured play” time as it’s called in the child development world, or space to just get bored, creativity tends to get stuck. Your brain doesn’t have the opportunity to come up with new ways of doing things.

It gets stuck on autopilot, and even if you’re super busy and over-“doing” in life, complacency sets in, and you just “do” without much thought or intention.

Of course that complacency can happen if you hang out too long in unstructured play as well, so limits are important…you’ve got to find that place between complacency and trying harder.

And this place in between…that’s where you find your “edge.” Last week on the podcast, I told you what your edge is and how you can identify it. This week I give you some ideas of what your edge might look like without adding one more thing to your “to-do” list.

Our Spring Break plan this year has been to sit at home on our new couch 🛋️, snuggle, watch movies and play. And so far, it’s been a great success!

For me, it’s “edgy” to actually sit around and watch movies and not feel the urge to have to also do something else, like laundry, research something, make a list or finally look on Amazon for that thing I’ve been needing to buy.

What about you? What’s an edge you can find that makes you a little uncomfortable and doesn’t require you to actually do more or be harder, faster, stronger, or tougher?

I’d love to hear from you–write me back and share what your “inward” edge might be🙂.

In the meantime, helping you find the rhythms in all you do!

Cheers,

Cathy
