Hey there Reader!
So I’m reading the book The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. It literally sat on my shelf ready for me to read for at least 2 years. And I 💯 percent believe that things come into our lives exactly when we need them most, even if we don’t realize its what we needed until we’re already knee deep in it. This book is one of those instances.
I was ready to start a new book and this one happened to be the one my Inner Guidance chose. And guess what…it’s spot on.
It’s all about overcoming the “Upper Limit Problems” we find ourselves in. An Upper Limit Problem (ULP) is basically when we don’t know how to have a good time all the time. It’s like, when life starts going really well, then all of a sudden something happens and makes that flow of going well come to a crashing halt.
You been there? I bet you can remember times in your life when this has happened to you.
Gay explains that we all have these “agreements” that we’ve basically made unconsciously with ourselves that when things start going really well, we do something or draw negative energy in to self-sabotage. In other words, how much fun or enjoyment do we let ourselves have before we let an ULP come into our lives?
In the book, Gay’s 12 year old granddaughter explains it this way:
“If you don’t know it’s OK to feel good and have a good time, you’ll do something to mess up when things are going well.”
So I say this is great timing on this book because as this came into my awareness I’ve caught myself in some pretty big ULP’s over the past 4-6 weeks since I’ve been absent from producing the podcast because of enjoying more family time and travel and then trying to get back to “work.”
And now, when I’m seriously wanting so much to get back to creating and working, the ULP’s just keep coming. For instance, I had full intentions of having an episode ready for you again this week, honestly made every effort to do so, but the universe or God has other plans for me at this moment in my life. I’m following His lead and going where the path takes me (I might also call that F.L.O.W.-ing with life😉), but I’ve realized how it’s just a series of ULP’s.
When you encounter an ULP, the question becomes, “What positive thing is trying to come from this?”.
Asking this question and tuning into the signals from my body, especially, are helping me navigate these Upper Limit Problems so that I can indeed one day break myself of them. (And, yes, he does say it is possible to do so.)
But first, you have to be willing to “increase the amount of time every day that you feel good inside.” And I am absolutely willing to do that, so I know I can continue onto the next pre-qualifying questions he asks in order to actually make The Big Leap to be living in my “Zone of Genius” all the time. Its an evolutionary process…one in which I’m still learning and uncovering some of my initial ULP’s.
And, of course, it’s a practice! Just like yoga, meditation, breathwork, journaling and prayer…all practices that can help you stay focused and calm when crud does hit the fan and ULP’s seem to be all around you (i.e. the chaos is in full swing…kind of like what seems to be happening in my life right now).
Nonetheless, I want you to know I’m thinking about you and am excited for the things that I’m working on for you all.
One of them being a Solstice Celebration of Rhythms coming up in a couple weeks with the Summer Solstice. I’ll drop a few more details below. It will be a local event, but not to fear, I’m working on a virtual piece to complement it for all of you who aren’t in the area. So stay tuned to your inbox and social media for details on how to grab that when it becomes available.
Thank you for your patience as I navigate life right now and trust the natural flow of events in life instead of trying to control them😘.
Helping you see the rhythms in all you do!
Cheers,
Cathy
P.S. You know the only way I’m getting through this chaotic time with focus and calm is by continuing with those practices I mentioned above, along with regular intentional movement to keep the energy from getting stuck and stagnant in my body. And you can do this too, it’s just a matter of carving out bits of time in your day to do so. And, yes, even with kids in tow or balancing their more of their energy in the summer, it IS still totally possible to give to yourself as well so that you can keep getting all that amazing stuff done that you do so well!
P.P.S. The Solstice Celebration of Rhythms with Nature Hike and Yoga will be held the evening of the summer solstice, on June 21. This also happens to be International Yoga Day, so it’s a great time to make a commitment to yourself right now to do some yoga on that day! Click here for details or to register.
