Hey Reader, I recently met with a client who had a major decision dropped in her lap not too long before our session. What was being asked of her felt pretty heavy and was activating the primitive part of her that wanted to simultaneously shrink away and hide AND ALSO take care of the other people involved. Neither of which was tuning into what was actually happening inside of HER. But those were her safe zones. The places she tended to go when she didn’t know what to do and her nervous system just wanted some sense of peace. So I wonder, what are the things you want to do when you receive heavy news or when life gets hard? Do you… ✅️ Hit the pavement and actually go for a run Throw around some heavy weights Pull out your yoga mat and move mindfully Journal Record your emotion in an emotions app Go for a walk Find a trail and take a hike Call a friend for support Pray Cry Fight back Close yourself in your house or room and shut out the world Ask for a hug Wish for a hug Meditate Yell, scream, curse Get even Stay busy with other to-do’s Bake Take care of others Place your hand on your heart and reconnect with yourself ✅️ None of these are wrong; some are just better choices than others. They may help you connect with your inner self more-so than avoiding, ignoring or pushing down what might really be going on inside leaving you to lash out at others over small things down the road. Knowing the rhythm of what you tend to do when life gets heavy gives you a place to start to begin to uncover what might better help you create more ease in the midst of the storms of life. I’m curious, write me back and let me know what your go-to response is. Cheers, Cathy P.S. I’ve just opened the doors to my annual Winter Solstice Candlelight Yoga Rhythms Retreat. This event usually sells out. It’s on a Friday night, so you hopefully won’t have work the next day and can start your weekend out in a peaceful state. If you’re from out of town, I’d love to have you make the trip to join us. You can find all the deets here.
