Hey there Reader,

Let’s talk yoga today🙂!

Yoga is everywhere these days. It has definitely become an increasingly popular form of not only intentional movement, but also (as true to its historical roots) of self-discovery and transformation, and there’s no shortage of yoga classes or teachers to choose from.

But have you ever wondered what the difference is between a yoga teacher and a yoga instructor? I hear students and clients all the time use these words as one in the same, and while they may seem like interchangeable terms, there are actually some important distinctions between the two.

For instance, as a yoga teacher there really is no certifying body for the hundreds or thousands of yoga styles out there. So anyone who says they have a certification in yoga likely has it in a specific style of yoga, and perhaps hasn’t gone through one of the larger recognized trainings like a 200 or 500-hour teacher training (which is recognized through “registering” organizations); they might instead be considered a yoga instructor.

These longer, more extensive trainings take a more holistic approach and equip a yoga teachers with yoga theory, history, philosophy, anatomy & physiology and more. Whereas, a yoga certification likely places more of an emphasis on the physical aspects of the practice or maybe a specific aspect of a style of yoga.

When you know the differences between the two roles, you’re better able to decide which to seek out when investing your time and effort into finding a knowledgeable and experienced guide to beginning or deepening your yoga practice.

And that’s why this week’s podcast episode is all about helping you understand these differences.

And, yes, both yoga teachers and instructors will have learned the fundamentals of postures as well as likely have experience sequencing them; it’s simply a matter of knowing how you want the yoga professional you work with to support you.

Got more yoga questions…write me back! I’d love to hear them and help you navigate your self-understanding journey toward flowing with your time, energy and focus even when life doesn’t go as you expect it to.

Cheers,

Cathy
